Student Council – Comhairle na nDaltaí
At McEgan College, we believe that students should have an active voice in the life of our school. The Student Council (Comhairle na nDaltaí) provides students with an opportunity to represent their peers, share their views and contribute to positive developments within the school community.
Our Aims
The Student Council aims to:
- Actively involve students in the life of the school.
- Support the school ethos and contribute positively to our school community.
- Represent the views of students and ensure that their opinions are heard.
- Develop and implement new ideas that can improve the student experience. For example, the Student Council has contributed to initiatives such as the design of a new school jacket.
- Promote social awareness and learning activities, encouraging students to engage with issues and initiatives that benefit the wider school community.
How the Student Council Works
The Student Council consists of 16 students and 2 staff members. Student representation includes:
- One elected representative from each tutor group, with two representatives from LCA, including a representative from Room 22.
- A Head Boy and Head Girl from 6th Year.
- Two staff members who support and guide the work of the Council.
Class Captains
An important part of student representation at McEgan College is the role of Class Captain (Captaen Ranga).
Class Captains are students who take on a role of responsibility within their tutor group. They represent their class and help ensure that students have a voice within the school.
Through the Student Council and Class Captain system, students are encouraged to develop leadership, responsibility, communication and teamwork skills, while making a meaningful contribution to school life.
We are proud to provide our students with opportunities to have their voices heard and to play an active role in shaping the school community.
